College Clubs

The college provides a number of clubs to nurture the talents of students in various faculties. The details of activities undertaken by these clubs are highlighted below:
The Nature, Art and Photography Club is an initiative towards sensitizing the student community on environment matters and also a platform for appreciation of art. Further, the club undertakes activities for development of photography skills amongst member students.
Report of the Nature, Art and Photography for Academic Year 2013-14
FLOWER ARRANGEMENT COMPETITIONNature Art and Photography club organised FLOWER ARRANGEMENT COMPETITION on 27th August 2013 at 11.30 am in Auditorium. The Competition was coordinated by Asst Prof. Ishwari Kalangutkar and Asst. Prof. Vibha Pai Angle and judged Dr. Deepali karmali Churi ,Ms. Namrata Wagle and Ms. Gloria Fernandes. Total eleven teams participated in competition.
Prize winners of the competition:

The Reading Club aims at developing the Reading Habit among students and to help them find their hidden talents with the help of following activities-
1. A visit to The Goa University Library
2. Article/Book Review
3. Special Lectures on various issues related to- Career, Literature, Mass Media, Study Techniques etc.
4.Book Exhibition
5. Competitions: a) Extempore Speech
b) Essay and Poetry Writing.

Reading Club
The college has a movie club called the Filmy Club which aims at developing a culture of discriminating film viewing among the students.The major activity of the club is to screen classic films and discuss the finer aspects of the film. Several films have been screened – the Mel Brooks comedy, ‘History of the World Part 1’ the George Cukor musical ‘My Fair Lady’ based on George Bernard Shaw’s play ‘Pygmalion’,which students of the F.Y. B.Com. have to study in their English paper, and the Marathi film ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ which describes how Dadasaheb Phalke helped set up the Indian film industry.  Entry to the films screened is done on a first come first served basis.The club also plans to organize workshops by filmmakers and actors, as also encourage students to participate in film festivals. A competition among students to make videos using their cell phone cameras is also on the cards.
Movie Club
The I.T. club was started with the sole purpose of learning Computers and its various applications, which are not in the syllabus, through fun filled methods. The students are actively involved in the whole process and they are eager to exchange their knowledge and expertise with their friends and learning is a pleasure since no formal lecture methods are used but usually demonstrations and displays play an integral part here. Students choose the club voluntarily and usually work with a lot of enthusiasm.
Every year the senior member students organise an introductory session for the juniors for an orientation about the club activities. This session also includes various ice-breaking games which help the students to know each other and work for the entire year comfortably.

25th August 2015: I.T Club organised a field trip to Verna industrial area and cortolim to Genora Infotech, Infinity 3D, Smartlink. 40 Students and 2 faculty members Prof.Shilpa Tripathi and Prof. Shraddha Shikerkar became part of this educational trip.
21st August 2015: I.T Club organised talk on Spoken Tutorial Project of IIT Bombay. The resource person Gaurang Bane explained students about the MHRD initiative and the benefits that will be there offered through these courses.
11th July 2015: I.T Club in collaboration with placement cell organized a talk on various career related opportunities and courses in the area of Animation, web designing, and disk Jockey.

On 11th February 2015 I.T Club in collaboration with placement cell organised a talk on Animation, career and opportunity.On 22nd December 2014 I.T club organized an inter class competition ‘Computer fun Olympiad for boys (NFS Most wanted) and girls (Angry Birds-space). 55 students from different classes participated.On 15th December 2014 club organized an inter class competition on ‘wealth out of e-waste’. Students from different classes participated enthusiastically. The event was judged by three judges. The winners were:

2nd January 2014: Best out of E-waste competition was organized by the club to encourage young creators.
21st Dec 2013: Computer Fun Olympiad, computer gaming competition was organized for Boys(NFS Most wanted) and Girls(Angry Birds)
13th December 2013: a Field Trip to Verna Industrial Area was organized in the following companies : Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt.Ltd, Genora Infotech, and Smartlink and 34 students attended the same along with Prof. Shilpa Tripathi
31st August 2013: I.T club organized a field trip to Verem and Verna Industrial Area . The field Trip was attended by 15 students and two teachers, Ms Sangeeta Jadhav , Ms Shilpa Tripathi . The group visited and interacted with : SBI, Verem; Genora Infotech, Verna.
29 August 2013: I. T Club organized a talk on “E-waste management” by Mr. Ashley Delaney, Co- founder and head of Group Ten Plus. It was attended by around 60 students.
11 July 2013: A talk on Dance and Music Software – ‘Using Sonar and Fruity Loops’ was organized by the I.T. Club. Mr. Roque Lazarus, ex-member of ‘Remo and the Microwave Poppadums’ band was the guest speaker. He demonstrated voice and instruments editing using the software. Also a jingle was created on the famous Dempo Anthem with the help of students. The talk was attended by 25 students and the faculty members.

10th July 2015: Talk on Stress Management and Yoga Club was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Suraj Kanekar.
Ms. Megha Kampli from FYBCom A demonstrated various asanas during the Occation.
Yoga Club started yoga classes in the College under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Shashikant Morajakar

E-Cell (Entrepreneurship Cell)

The college E-Cell has been established in the academic year 2014-15. This cell has been set up in association with Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration (CIBA), Assagao and with support from E-Cell of Goa Institute of Management (GIM). E-cells helps students understand the various benefits of entrepreneurship and think of it as a viable and lucrative career option. It also encourages independent and entrepreneurial talent and provides a platform for young budding entrepreneurship. The cell has conducted number of programmes including business plan competitions, marketing competitions, social network based competitions and has invited guest speakers and entrepreneurs for motivating students to take the path of entrepreneurship. areer option. Submit Your Business Idea

Theatre Club was established in the year 2000 to enhance the acting skills and to build up self confidence and to developed the overall Personality of the Students.
Since inception the members of the club has participated in various intercollegiate one act play and skit competition organized by Kala Academy, Rajiv Kala Mandir, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Gomantak-Sakaal , a various organizations. The members of the club has bagged various prizes during these competitions.
Theatre Club has invited various prominent and well known theatre artists like Ms. Varsha Usgaonkar, Shri Ramesh Bhatkar, Shri Ajinkya Dev and Shri Sachin Kedekar. This has provided opportunity to our students to interact with theartre personalized and get important tips to enhance their theatre Skills.
The Club is continuously conducting Theatre workshops to sharpen the theatre skill and to remove stage inhibitions and fear among the students. During the current academic year, the workshop was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Santosh Shetkar, wherein 28 students actively participated.
Presently the Theatre club is headed by Prof. Pravin Gaonkar. Other members includes Prof. Shashikant Morajkar – Asst. Incharge, Prof. Nagesh Kamat – Member and Prof. Felcy Coelho – Member.

Theatre Club

“The Dempo Wizards” is an initiative of the Department of Economics and provides a forum where students discuss and debate socio-economic and political issues as well as plan, organise, and execute different club events.

For the academic year 2017-18 the club had a total strength of 70 student members and 6 faculty members i.e. Asst. Prof. Sylvia Britto, Asst. Prof. Krishnakumar Bandolkar, Dr. Amitha Shanbhogue, Asst. Prof. Thereza Coutinho, Asst. Prof. Amit Naik and Asst. Prof. Padma Shanbag . It was inaugurated on 1st August 2018.

The club members conducted and participated in various competitions a gist of which is as following :
– The club members organized ‘The Battle of Oration’ – An Interclass Elocution Competition sponsored by The Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai on 19th September 2017. The winners were:
1st Prize –Mr. Avlon Gonsalves (F.Y.B.Com.)
2nd Prize –Ms. Jelda A .D’Silva (T.Y.B.Com)
3rd Prize – Mr. Johann Da Silva (F.Y.B.Com.)
– The club members debated the following topics at regular intervals:
1.Food Policy in the college canteen
2.Reservation of seats in educational institutions
3.Transgender/ Homesexuals rights and issues
4.Dual citizenship in Goa

– ‘Leadership Development Camp’ was organized by the Vasantrao Dempo Education and Research Foundation in collaboration with Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai and co-ordinated by The Dempo Wizards Club on 5th and 6th December 2017. A total of 90 students from 32 colleges across Goa participated in the camp.
– ‘MODEL WTO 2018’ – The Dempo Wizards conducted the First Edition of Intra- Collegiate Model WTO 2018 – providing a platform for students to understand the working, operations and structure of the WTO.
The Model WTO consisted of six events :
1.Introduce Your Economy
2.WTO Public Forum Discussion
3.Trade Policy Review Body
4.WTO Moot Court
5.Public Forum Video Contest
6.Trade and People Fair

The participates had to represent a country and put forth trade policies and participate in moot courts, fairs and discussions. Team Japan emerged as the winners of the event.It was a learning experience and showcased students debating and oratory skills.

– The club members also participated in numerous inter – collegiate events.

> Ms. Sudeepta Mallya of F.Y.B.Com. partcipated and won the consolation prize at an Essay Competition for Inter-Collegiate students organized by Dr. P.S. Ramani Medical Foundation on 11th September 2017.
> ‘Impetus 2017’ – A Two Day Inter-Collegiate Event was organized by Fr. Agnel College of Arts and Science, Pilar on 4th and 5th of October 2017 in which the club members secured the ‘Runners-Up’ position.
> ‘The RBI Policy Challenge – 2018’ A team comprising of club members:
1. Ms. Alisha Pligaonkar (F.Y.B.Com.)
2. Mr. Avlon Gonsalves (F.Y.B.Com.)
3. Ms. Sudeepta Mallya (F.Y.B.Com)
4. Ms. Lizzie Braganza (PGDBA –EM) participated in the Regional Round held on 15th December 2017 and were adjudged the Best Entry from the region.The team qualified and represented Goa at the Zonal Round of the competition held on 2nd February 2018 at RBI College of Agricultural Banking, Pune.
> Daring Debate Competition was organized by The Department of Womens’ Studies, Goa University on 11th January 2018. A team comprising of two club members 1. Ms. Jelda D’Silva (T.Y.B.Com) and 2. Mr. Prajwal Hegde (F.Y.B.B.A) participated in the debate on the topic “Is Empowering Women A Dilemma For Men”. Mr. Prajwal Hegde won the Wild Card Entry to the Difficult Dialogues.
> An Inter- Collegiate Essay Cum Presentation Competition “Gandhiji The Mahatma” was organized by Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics Margao on 30th January 2018. The theme for the competition was a quote by Mahatma Gandhi ‘An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind’. Mr. Avlon Gonsalves (F.Y.B.Com.) and Mr. Johann Da Silva (F.Y.B.Com.) participated in the same and secured the third place.
> Inter-Collegiate Economics Quiz Competition on ‘Agricultural Economics’ was held on 3rd March 2018 at Rosary College Of Commerce and Arts Navelim in which Ms. Amanda Maria Pereira (T.Y.B.Com) and Ms. Jesuana Fatima Araujo (T.Y.B.Com) won the Second Place.
> IXth All Goa Inter-Collegiate Bible Quiz 2018 was held 9th February 2018 at Rosary College Of Commerce and Arts Navelim. A team comprising of Ms. Amanda Maria D’Souza (T.Y.B.Com),Ms. Jesuana Fatima Araujo (T.Y.B.Com) and Mr. Ryan Estricio (F.Y.B.Com.)participated in the same.
> “Difficult Dialogues” 2018- Mr.Prajwal Hegde (F.Y.B.B.A) participated in the finals of the Difficult Dialogues -Daring Debate organised by the Department of Women’s Studies on 8th February 2018 at Goa University. He spoke for the motion “Masculinity affects Gender Equality”.
> ‘Words-Up 2018’ –was orgainised by Department of English ,St.Xavvier’s College Mapusa on 9th and 10th February 2018. The club members secured the second place at the competition.
> ‘Know Your Economy’ (KYE) Tset – The Dempo Wizards members participated in ‘Know Your Economy’ -Awareness Kindling Test conducted by Parvatibai Chowgule College on behalf of Scientific Research Association for Economics and Finance (SRAEF) Chennai.A total of 15 students participated in the test and the results are awaited.
