Principal, Dempo Charities Trust’s S. S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics (affiliated to Goa University)

  • Responsibilities :

Head of the institution, responsible for the Administrative curricular and co-curricular functioning and development of the institution with academic and administrative strength of 50 and a student strength of approximately 1000 boys and girls.

Previous position held (19th June, 1987 to 31st July, 2009)

Lecturer, selection Grade and Head of the Department, Department of Economics, Carmel College for Women, Salcete, Goa

 

Curricular duties :


  • Teaching Economics to undergraduate students of the faculties of humanities and commerce for the past 27 years and ensuring that their performance is worthwhile.
  • Assessment and evaluation of the courses taught in college.
  • Examination duties of the Goa University including paper setting, assessment and evaluation.
  • Organising National and State level conferences, seminars, workshops and symposia for teachers of undergraduate programs.
  • Participating in and presenting papers at National and State level conferences, seminars, workshops and symposia for teachers of undergraduate programs.

Administrative duties :


  • conduct of examinations, preparation of examination schedules and drawing up of lecture schedules for the undergraduate programs for the institution.

Co-curricular duties :


  • organizing and conducting co-curricular activities for students in the institution.
  • Organising and conducting inter-collegiate competitions to develop co-curricular skills , such as debating, public speaking, quizzing etc., in the students of the state.
  • Organizing and conducting personality development programs for students in the institution.

The above posts enabled me to develop my leadership abilities.  As a leader in teachers organization, I have handled the entire gamut of activities to promote and protect the welfare of teachers in undergraduate colleges in Goa.

Local Governance :


 

  • Have participated in local governance of the Ponda town in the capacity of an elected representative (Ward Councilor) from September 1996 to August 2001 and am elected again for a five year term from January 2008.
  • Have led the Ponda Municipal Council as Chairperson from Sptember 1996 to March 1997 and from April 1998 to August 2001.
  • Have initiated and successfully implemented several State and Central programs for poverty alleviation, slum development and empowerment of women.
  • Have initiated and implemented training and skill development for employees of Ponda Municipal Council.
  • Have introduced important welfare programs for the employees of Ponda Municipal Council.
